Baby teeth fillings are categorized into two types:
1. Superficial Fillings:
These are applied when the decay is superficial and hasn’t reached the nerve. In this case, the decay is removed, and a tooth-colored filling is used for restoration.
2. Nerve Fillings:
Nerve fillings become necessary when the decay has reached the tooth’s nerve. This involves the removal, cleaning, and filling of part or the entire nerve.
Milky Tooth Extraction:
Milky teeth may need extraction under the following circumstances:
When the tooth becomes loose and is ready to naturally fall out, making room for the permanent tooth.
In cases of delayed natural shedding, extraction is performed to facilitate the timely emergence of the permanent tooth.
Extraction may also be required if tooth decay has caused significant damage. If the extraction occurs before the normal replacement time for the permanent tooth, a space retainer may be necessary to prevent adjacent teeth from shifting and occupying the space meant for the yet-to-erupt permanent tooth. This precautionary measure can help avoid future orthodontic complications due to inadequate space for the permanent tooth.
Crown Placement for Milky Teeth:
The need for a crown arises when decay has extensively damaged the tooth, requiring additional protection.
Two types of crowns are available:
1. Metal Crown (Stainless Steel):
Offers durability and strength.
2. Zirconium Crown:
Mimics the natural color of a tooth, providing aesthetic benefits.
